Digital artist ERDF funded residency at the Digital Humanities Hub at the University of Birmingham Working with John Sear to create an interactive touchscreen app Diptych make to engage with archives and make new artworks. Projected onto Senate House for the Being Human Festival and installed at Ikon Gallery's Ikon Youth Program event.
Diptych builder app steps:Firstly, you skip past the instructions screen
You're then presented with ~100 images from the archives. You can handle these as you would any image on a touch table. Eventually you'll select your two images (that are complementary in some way) given Diptych tradition.
Once they are in place – you can zoom and scroll around to focus in on your favorite portion of the image. Next you can apply many different photo filters to create the desired look.
Once you're finished you apply your own signature and you're all done. They were launched at MozFest and the results were projected onto the outside of Senate House as part of the Being Human festival. There's a nice Ministry of Truth Orwellian connection for any 1984 fans!
The project was also shown at the Ikon Gallery along with a draft motion capture install.
